FA Cup round two action from St James Park as Exeter City hosted Wycombe Wanderers in an all-League One tie.
Exeter City thumped Wycombe Wanderers 4-0 to book their place in the third round of the FA Cup.
The first half was an end-to-end contest, with chances coming for both sides, but it was Exeter who took the lead five minutes before half-time when Jack Aitchison headed home an Illmari Niskanen cross.
City then added to their lead in the 60th minute when Aitchison was slid in and rounded Will Norris, before Akeel Higgins and Jayden Wareham added a third and fourth in the last 10 minutes.
Wycombe almost got off to the perfect start inside the first minute. Jamie Mullins played in Sam Bell from a short free-kick routine, which called Joe Whitworth into action to deny the Bristol City loanee.
Exeter then went close through Jake Doyle-Hayes, as a throw-in reached the midfielder on the edge of the box. His first time effort bounced through a load of bodies and ended up in the arms of Norris.
The away side then went close again. Bell was involved again, as he laid off a pass into the middle of the park which Mullns collected. He then played in Fred Onyedinma, whose shot was charged down by Johnly Yfeko and came to nothing.
With ten minutes to go until half-time, Yfeko had to be on hand to deny Onyedinma again. A long diagonal ball found the winger unmarked on the right flank, but the former Rangers man was there to block his effort again.
A few minutes later, Exeter took the lead. A simple goal from a cross into the box, with the unmarked Aitchison looping a header over Norris and into the net.
The teams went in at half-time with the Grecians leading 1-0. A fair reflection of the contest, as they'd looked much better in front of goal than their lacklustre opponents.
Michael Duff opted for a change of personnel at the break, with Bradley Fink replacing Mullins, and offering a little more physical presence in the Wanderers attack.
The Chairboys almost got back on terms with their first corner of the half. Cauley Woodrow's deep cross was met by Connor Taylor at the back post, but his header was poor, bouncing out for a goal-kick.
However, against the run of play, Exeter doubled their advantage. Schoolboy defending from Wycombe once again, as they expected a foul to be given in the midfield, which wasn't.
The Grecians took full advantage of the switch-off, with the Wanderers backline in disarray, Aitchinson was played one-on-one with Norris, before taking it around the keeper and slotting home his second.
Whitworth then had to deny Woodrow from point-blank range to maintain his side's two-goal advantage with an excellent foot save. The Crystal Palace
Fink then pretty much summed up his side's afternoon with just over 10 minutes to play. The striker was gifted the ball when Ed Turns slipped at the back, leaving him one-on-one with Whitworth, but he decided to try and evade the oncoming defender, and ended up firing his shot right against him.
Higgins then compounded Wycombe's misery by adding a third inside the last ten minutes. The West Brom loanee twisted past Jack Grimmer, and curled in a beauty to seal the victory, and thoroughly embarrass their opponents.
Wareham then added insult to injury in stoppage time, tapping home Niskanen's cross into an empty net, sending the Grecians into the third round of the FA Cup.
