Exiled Barcelona starlets near Premier League, Bundesliga moves

Barcelona will be very busy in the final weeks of the summer transfer window, both in terms of signings and exits. They have done well to offload a number of unwanted players over the course of the last couple of months, but there is more work to be done before the September 1st deadline.

Earlier this month, Barcelona identified six players that would leave before the transfer window closes, and thus, the decision was made to exile them from training with a view to avoiding injuries, as happened with Roony Bardghji. Two of those kept separate were cousins Guille and Toni Fernandez, who are too good for Barca Atletic but not good enough to attain a place in the first team squad.

Barcelona are keen for the pair to continue their development elsewhere, while keeping control of their futures via a significant sell-on clause and/or buy-back option. It’s now been reported by Albert Fernandez that both players are on the verge of leaving, with the Premier League and Bundesliga being their likely destinations.

Guille is close to joining Newcastle United, whom Barcelona have a good relationship with as a result of the Anthony Gordon deal earlier in the summer. As for Toni, he’ll be heading to Bayer Leverkusen, barring any last minute surprises.

Barcelona want to include buy-back clauses in both deals

It wasn’t long ago that the Fernandez cousins were two of La Masia’s brightest talents. However, they have not done enough yet to convince Flick, and thus, the decision has been made for them to leave in search of regular first team football elsewhere. This is wise, especially if Barcelona are able to secure the aforementioned clauses – especially the buy-back option, which they are trying to get for both players.

The situation with both players is expected to have more clarity in the coming days, but right now, Guille and Toni look to be heading to Newcastle and Leverkusen respectively.
