Algeria is being tipped as one of the major favorites to win the 2024 African Nations Championship.
To discuss the chances of the North African squad in CHAN, Foot Africa reached out to Rabah Amara, founder of the renowned Algerian website “El Marma Sport”, who outlined the strengths of the Algerian team heading into the continental competition.
In my opinion, Algeria is the clear favorite to clinch the trophy for three reasons. First, their squad is made up primarily of top-level players who play for the four best clubs from last season’s Algerian league. In addition, most of the players selected by head coach Madjid Bougherra are experienced and have played numerous matches in the CAF Champions League and the Confederation Cup. Finally, let’s not forget that Algeria finished as runners-up, narrowly losing to Senegal on penalties in the 2022 edition of the tournament.
