Barcelona were all over the place in their most recent defeat to Sevilla. Despite the late first-half goal scored by Marcus Rashford, it became clear to Hansi Flick that the team needs changes.
The German tactician responded by replacing Ronald Araujo and Gerard Martin at half-time, as they made way for Eric Garcia and Alejandro Balde, respectively.
As reported by AS, Flick’s decision to take off Araujo and Martin was not motivated by any injuries.
In fact, his decision to sub the two defenders off was a disciplinary message – a statement from the coach to everyone in the team.
Few can blame Flick either, as Araujo and Martin looked completely out of sorts and struggled to cope with the intensity of the Sevilla press.

Araujo, given his weakness in passing the ball out from the back, was a major target for Sevilla attackers. And it showed, with the Uruguayan international eventually conceding a penalty that led to the opener from Alexis Sanchez.
The report adds that Flick will now conduct individual training sessions with the players, including Araujo, who will not travel to South America for the upcoming international break.
The defender did not travel with the national team in order to address the decline in his form – something Flick aims to solve during the international break.
In any case, though, Araujo’s recent performances are yet another indicator that he might soon emerge as one of the top candidates for a sale, should the club look to raise money in the near future.
Although Araujo receives support from the top management, including Deco, his lack of consistency is something that will not be appreciated by Flick in the long run.
