Tolu Arokodare is expected to leave Wolves this summer, most likely on loan, with Trabzonspor having already tabled an offer under discussion. According to ExpressAndStar.com, news of a likely loan exit has divided supporters.
First, the club must decide whether anyone truly wants him to stay. After a dressing-room bust-up with Mateus Mane and former head coach Rob Edwards’ wish to move him on, an exit remains the direction of travel.
Arokodare cost about £24 million, including add-ons, on a four-year deal with a 12-month option. With only three Premier League goals in year one, a sale now needs a hefty fee or a loss that is hard to justify post-relegation.
With transfer fees amortised, his book value is roughly £18 million this summer, near the break-even mark. Hitting that looks unlikely, so a loan is the pragmatic route.
A productive spell in Türkiye could lift his market value while his book value falls, improving the chance of a profit against the balance sheet even if the fee is below £24 million. If the loan club pays his full wages, the benefit increases. Similar turnarounds have happened before.
He still has three years left, plus an option, so Wolves retain leverage. Fabio Silva’s path, from a £35 million buy to multiple loans and a move to Borussia Dortmund for up to £23 million, shows how value can be recovered under the new Squad Cost Rules. A revival cannot be ruled out, but a loan remains the likeliest step.
