In 2024, Liverpool entrusted Arne Slot to oversee the team and take them to new heights, following the departure of Jurgen Klopp. We've now got to keep faith in him once again.

Managerial spells have ups and downs, with Slot's appearing to come at the extreme ends of the spectrum, with a Premier League title win last season, and eight losses in 11 games this season.

The lack of transfer business during the 2024/25 season helped to keep the cohesion in Liverpool's squad, meanwhile an erratic £450m spend this past summer has caused a whole host of problems.

What matters, however, is how Slot reacts to the adversity he's facing. A lot of former managers have been given two seasons in charge, without securing any silverware. It shouldn't be in doubt that Slot sees out the current campaign. He's earned himself that chance at the very least.

Is Slot officially underrated?

Saturday afternoon's 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest at Anfield was Slot's 50th Premier League game as manager of the Reds, and in spite of Liverpool's recent form, his record is outstanding.

The Athletic has confirmed in a new report that the Dutchman's 31 wins is more than any Liverpool manager has ever reached in the first 50 league games of their tenure. Sir Kenny Dalglish had the previous record of 30, Bill Shankly had 27 and Jurgen Klopp had 26. That's esteemed company.

Liverpool's last underwhelming season was the 2022/23 campaign under Klopp, which resulted in a fifth place finish, and while things aren't looking great right now, it's plausible that Liverpool could still end up third, if they follow the blueprint Pep Guardiola and Manchester City laid out last season.

Of course, we all need something to buy into and Slot's team is struggling to such an extent right now that it's difficult to find hope, but the quality of the players is extraordinary. Their talent hasn't just disappeared overnight. This is merely a blip in form - and eventually, it'll come to an end.

Liverpool have never been a reactionary club when it comes to managers, you've got to let things play out before an informed and rational decision is reached. Sacking the head coach that's got a Premier League win percentage of 62% would be nonsense of the highest order.

And it's not like the Reds have stopped getting results. Outside of the domestic league, we're on track to qualify for the Champions League knock-out phase at the first-time of asking, sitting inside the top eight of the league-phase, with three wins and one loss. There are positives to take.

So while it's all well and good to question Slot, and speculate around who could replace him - there are issues that could lead to his dismissal if they remain unresolved - he's not going anywhere yet.
