“Extremely frustrating”

Board member for sport Markus Krösche, interim coach Dennis Schmitt and Rasmus Kristensen reflect on the match in Baku.

Board member for sport Markus Krösche: “It’s extremely frustrating to lose the match after being in front. We made the same mistakes as in previous weeks and in doing so we’re robbing ourselves of victory a bit. We need to walk through this storm together right now. Clearly, being eliminated from the Champions League is not what we wanted.”

Interim coach Dennis Schmitt: “We’re obviously disappointed, the boys put a lot of effort in and we desperately wanted to win. The boys were very disciplined and showed intensity on the pitch. We’ll analyse everything, discuss the mistakes honestly and then put everything into winning against Hoffenheim. There were signs of progress but we also made one mistake too many.”

Rasmus Kristensen: “I’m disappointed. It wasn’t good enough, not from me either – I need to do better. I made mistakes before the goals. With the equaliser straight after the goal that gave us the lead, it just wasn’t good enough from me. We need to stick at it, keep battling, work even harder and give our all. That’s how we regain confidence. There are phases in a career when things don’t go as you imagined – that’s one of the toughest things in football. We’re not worse players than last year or last summer. It’s in our minds, we need to change something and just keep going. We all have to do better as a group. We’re playing again in three days.”
