Formula 1 icon Fernando Alonso, one of Spain’s most loved sports figures and a proud Real Madrid supporter, recently caused quite a stir with his latest remarks about FC Barcelona.

In a light-hearted interview with DAZN, Alonso was asked a fun but tricky question: “If you could sign one Barcelona player for Real Madrid, who would it be?”

Without hesitation, the two-time F1 world champion chose Pedri and not the teenage sensation Lamine Yamal, as many fans might have expected.

His answer quickly grabbed headlines across Spain and sparked a buzz among fans of both clubs.

Alonso explained his choice in a joking manner, saying, “I would sign Pedri for Madrid, to weaken Barça. I also do that on the PlayStation and then leave him on the bench.”

His cheeky remark brought laughter, but also reminded everyone how highly rated Pedri is, even by fans of rival clubs.

Real Madrid are indeed looking for a midfielder

Interestingly, Alonso’s comments come at a time when Real Madrid are already in the market for a midfielder.

With the future of the midfield core evolving, the club is looking for fresh legs to carry the team forward.

While signing Pedri from Barcelona is something that will never happen, one name that continues to gain momentum is Angelo Stiller.

The Stuttgart midfielder is seen as a smart, long-term option for the club. At just 24 years old, he has the right mix of maturity and potential.

Stiller is said to be very keen on joining Real Madrid, and although no official offer has been made yet, the player is reportedly ready to make the move.

His current club values him at around €50 million, although there is a release clause of €36 million that doesn’t become active until 2026. Despite that, Madrid are closely monitoring the situation and could make a move soon.
