The English FA has charged Nottingham Forest full-back Harry Toffolo for allegedly breaking betting rules 375 times. He has until July 19 to respond to the charges.

They allege he breached FA rules, which ban players from placing bets or passing on information for betting, 375 times between January 22, 2014 and March 18, 2017.

Toffolo was on Norwich City’s book at the time but never played for them. He was on loan at Swindon Town, Rotherham United, Peterborough United, and Scunthorpe United.

When the offences started in the 2014/15 season, he was on loan at Swindon Town. He then played for Rotherham and Peterborough the following season.

Toffolo, then spent the 2016/17 season on loan at Scunthorpe United. This period was when the alleged betting offences ended.

Toffolo then moved to Lincoln City in League Two in 2018 before moving to Huddersfield in the Championship, where he was a regular for the Terriers. He joined Forest in 2020.

In a statement today, an FA spokesperson said (via Twitter): “Nottingham Forest’s Harry Toffolo has been charged with misconduct in relation to our betting rules.

“It’s alleged that the defender breached FA Rule E1(b) 375 times between January 22 2014 and March 18 2017. Harry Toffolo has until Wednesday, July 19, 2023, to provide his response.”

The 27-year-old was a feature in Forest’s side last season and made 21 appearances throughout the campaign.

The incident comes less than two months after Brentford and England international centre-forward Ivan Toney received an eight-month ban for breaking betting rules.

Toney received the ban in May after admitting to 232 breaches of the FA’s betting rules.

They charged the 27-year-old initially in November 2022. He missed out on a place in Gareth Southgate’s 26-man squad for the 2022 World Cup.

However, Toney’s ban was reduced from 11 months to eight. They diagnosed him with a gambling addiction and he will not play again until January 17, 2024.
