FA Cup fifth round draw takes place | OneFootball

Following on from the weekend of fourth round matches, the draw for the fifth round of the FA Cup took place this evening with all eight ties confirmed as well as the news on the status of the abandoned match between Southampton and Crystal Palace.

Having dug out a winner in extra time against Durham, Bristol City were the first team out of the hat and make half of one of the two all-WSL ties as they will face Everton.

Seeing off Southampton FC at St Mary’s, Coventry United might have hoped for a better tie in the next round but will be glad to be playing at home as they take on WSL side, Spurs who comfortably saw off fourth tier Barnsley yesterday.

Having played a team from the tier below over the weekend, Leicester City will have a gruelling task on their hands as they clash with a team from the next division up after having been draw against a Reading team who put five past Championship London City Lionesses.

Although still waiting official confirmation from the FA, the word when ball #13 was drawn it was announced on air that match abandoned in the 78th minute between Southampton Women’s FC and Crystal Palace would be replayed this weekend. To the victor, a home tie against Brighton and Hove who avoided a narrow miss against Aston Villa yesterday.

The current holders, Manchester City came off favourably, not just with a home draw but facing the lowest – and last fourth tier team still standing – ranked side left in the cup, Ipswich Town.

The most successful team in the history of the Women’s FA Cup, Arsenal similarly avoided one of the “bigger” sides as they were drawn at home to Championship strugglers, Lewes.

Pushing for promotion back to the Championship, Sunderland were again granted a home tie, this time against Birmingham City who made light work of their second tier opponents over the weekend.

With all but two balls drawn, the last tie decided itself, the only detail to be decided; who had to travel. The penultimate ball out of the hat, Chelsea were given the last home slot – having been drawn across London for their fourth round clash with Charlton yesterday – their opposition, the last WSL team left, Liverpool.
