Fabian Hürzeler says a loan for ex-Sunderland winger Tommy Watson remains on the table as Brighton weigh his next step after last summer’s £10million move.
The 19-year-old signed until June 2029 and has played 56 Premier League minutes plus a one-minute FA Cup cameo, having ended his Sunderland spell by scoring the Championship play-off final winner against Sheffield United.
“Yes, also for him a loan is a possibility. But I think regarding him, the most important thing is that he gets back into his rhythm regarding his availability, because again, last week he couldn't train regularly.”
He was speaking to Sussex World.
“He missed some sessions, and I think that's the worst thing that can happen to a young player to not get into a rhythm, to not be on the training pitch, to not train with the boys, to not have the opportunity to improve himself and to show himself. So therefore I think the main thing for him is getting into rhythm, and then, like I just mentioned, we have to make the right decision for the club and the player.”
Watson caught the eye in the Carabao Cup, scoring at Oxford United in a 6-0 win then providing three assists against Barnsley. He prefers the left flank, where Kaoru Mitoma, Diego Gomez, Ferdi Kadioglu and Maxim De Cuyper are ahead of him, so a loan in the final days of January could be explored.
