Brighton head coach Fabian Hurzeler will make a late call on Kaoru Mitoma’s involvement for Saturday’s Premier League trip to Sunderland, with a scan showing no injury and his availability hinging on whether he can tolerate the pain.
According to Sunderland Echo, Hurzeler said the decision would come after Friday’s training session.
Mitoma suffered an ankle problem in the first half of the 1-0 defeat to Arsenal earlier this month, later leaving on crutches with a protective boot. If he responds well in training, Hurzeler suggested the winger could feature in the North East.
The head coach underlined that this issue is separate from the ankle injury that kept Mitoma out late last year, calling it a painful knock rather than a fresh lay-off.
Hurzeler also confirmed that Lewis Dunk and Solly March, who missed the Arsenal match, are back in contention for Sunderland, leaving Mitoma as the only fitness concern.
