Fabian Schär has signed a one-year extension at Newcastle, keeping him beyond 30 June and taking him into a ninth season with the club.
In a statement, the club said talks had been complex, while adding that all parties were keen to reach a quick agreement on Schär’s future.

It is his third successive one-year renewal, and this one appears to have been the most delicate.
The centre-back has been sidelined since January, his season ended early, and he is now focused on being fit for pre-season.
Across eight years with Newcastle, the former Switzerland international, capped 86 times, has made 251 appearances and lifted the Carabao Cup in 2025.
He has also played in the Champions League twice, in 2023-24 and this season.
