Fabio Cannavaro linked with Uzbekistan job

Legendary defender Fabio Cannavaro could be set to return to management in charge of the Uzbekistan national team.

Uzbekistan have already qualified for the 2026 World Cup and they could be led out by a winner of the 2006 edition.

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Uzbekistan FA have made official contact with the Italian to take over as head coach.

After a lengthy stint as manager of clubs in China, Cannavaro returned to Italian football to take over at Benevento in the 2022/23 season before a brief stint in charge at Udinese the following season.

Most recently, Cannavaro had a short stint in charge of Dinamo Zagreb but was sacked as the Croatian side faded in the title race.

Uzbekistan earned their World Cup 2026 spot after finishing second in Group A of the AFC third round, finishing behind Iran and ahead of the likes of UAE, Qatar, Kyrgyzstan, and North Korea.
