“It has been our goal during the current transfer window to strengthen our attacking options in order to be as unpredictable as possible and to be optimally prepared for all situations across the three competitions. It took a lot of patience to achieve our objectives and we are now delighted to have signed Fabio Silva, a player with great potential,” commented Borussia Dortmund's managing director for sport Lars Ricken.
BVB sporting director Sebastian Kehl declared: “Fabio Silva was considered an exceptional talent at a very young age, has gained important experience over the course of recent seasons, has matured both as a footballer and as a person, and is still a young player with great development potential. Fabio brings a lot of quality to the table: a goal threat, intensity, pace, and he can be deployed flexibly in several positions. All of this, as well as the fact that he is a success-driven, hard-working striker, makes this transfer very valuable for us.”
Fabio Silva, who played for all of Portugal's youth national teams from the U15s to the U21s and made his debut for the senior national team last year, completed a switch from FC Porto to Wolverhampton Wanderers at the age of 18 and has since made 72 competitive appearances for Wolves, scoring five goals and registering six assists. He spent last season on loan at Spanish club UD Las Palmas, scoring 10 goals and notching three assists across 24 appearances.
“For me, it is something very special to sign for a club like Borussia Dortmund,” said Fabio Silva, who went on to add: “This club carries enormous appeal, not only in Germany but throughout Europe. I know BVB as a passionate club with incredible supporters. It fills me with pride and great excitement to now be part of this myself. I want to settle in quickly, give my all and do my part to ensure that we are successful as a team.”
Fabio Silva will wear the shirt number 21 at BVB.
