Fábio Veríssimo’s report states that, during halftime of the FC Porto-SC Braga match at Estádio do Dragão, a television in the refereeing team’s locker room repeatedly replayed the incident of Froholdt’s disallowed goal—due to a foul by Bednarek on the Braga goalkeeper—as well as a play from an under-13 match between Benfica and FC Porto, which Veríssimo allegedly validated in favor of Benfica. These facts could lead to severe disciplinary measures against the head of the League.
According to the League’s disciplinary regulations, the events described by the referee fall under Article 66, concerning coercion. The prescribed sanction is disqualification, although, if the coercion was merely attempted and is considered not to have interfered with the course of the game, the applicable penalty is a loss.
The article in question, which we transcribe below, also refers to a section of Article 62, which states that “the club is responsible for acts committed by any of its directors, representatives, employees, and other sports agents linked to it, as well as for acts committed by its de facto representatives, when proven to have been carried out on its orders and in its interest,” making it difficult for the club to claim ignorance regarding someone’s actions.
