Fabrício Bruno says he will support Flamengo in their bid for a fifth Copa Libertadores title, despite now being a Cruzeiro player.
According to Coluna Do Fla, he spoke in the Maracanã mixed zone after Flamengo’s 2-1 win on Wednesday 19, noting he had wanted Cruzeiro to go through but that, among the upcoming ties, his backing will be for Flamengo.
Arrascaeta struck before the break and Samuel Lino scored after half-time to send the Rio club into the quarter-finals. Lucas Romero netted for Cruzeiro from a Gerson assist.
Bruno also defended Gerson, who was loudly booed by home fans and targeted with a hostile chant. He said supporters are often led by emotion, stressed the midfielder’s significant history at the club, and added that players who leave can become targets. He described Gerson as experienced and a serial winner who knows how to deal with such moments.
The centre-back left Flamengo with grievances after falling behind Léo Ortiz and Léo Pereira under Filipe Luís, choosing to return home and sign for Cruzeiro in 2025.
Flamengo will discover their next opponents on Tuesday 25, when Independiente del Valle and Deportes Tolima meet in Ecuador. With the hosts having won the first match away, they need only a draw to progress. The quarter-final ties are scheduled for the second and third weeks of September, with the return leg at the Maracanã.
