Fabrizio Romano confirms a huge offer for a sensational winger from Liverpool.

Richard Hughes has a big job on his hands this summer, and a lot of it comes down to getting Liverpool back to the formula that made them so successful under Jurgen Klopp.

At their best, Liverpool were one of the most balanced teams in world football. Everything seemed to fit together perfectly. They had the physicality to dominate opponents, the intensity to press relentlessly, the technical quality to control games and, just as importantly, the pace to hurt teams whenever space opened up.

It was that balance that made Klopp's side so difficult to stop. The system brought the best out of the players, and the players made the system even stronger.

At the moment, though, Liverpool don't quite have that same mix.

There's still plenty of quality in the squad and no shortage of hard-working players, but the overall makeup of the team feels slightly off. Certain attributes are well covered, while others are missing altogether.

The biggest issue is probably pace.

In years gone by, Liverpool could rely on players like Sadio Mane to stretch defences and turn games in an instant.

Even Luis Diaz at his peak brought explosive burst that terrified defenders and created space for everyone around him.

That kind of speed isn't as obvious in the current squad, and it's something Liverpool have missed at times.

When teams sit deep or try to squeeze the pitch, having players who can simply run past opponents changes everything.

That's why recruitment this summer feels fairly straightforward in one key area.

Liverpool need to add more pace and dynamism to their attack.

Finding players who can stretch defences, create chaos in transition and bring back that constant threat in behind could go a long way towards restoring the balance that made Klopp's best teams so effective.

It's also what is going to make Andoni Iraola's side tick. He needs fast players to make his press effective.

The real question, though, is pretty straightforward: who’s actually out there and available?

The pool of elite wide forwards isn’t exactly overflowing, especially when you narrow it down to players who have genuine pace, top-level 1v1 ability, and are realistically gettable. Most of the standout wingers in world football are already tied down at Europe’s biggest clubs like Paris Saint-Germain, FC Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

Names like Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Michael Olise and Lamine Yamal sit right at the very top of that bracket, but realistically they’re not attainable. They’re either completely untouchable at their current clubs or, in the rare case they did become available, the level of competition and financial power involved would put them well beyond reach for most sides, including Liverpool in the current market.

At this point, it’s hard to ignore Yan Diomande. The 19-year-old already looks like a complete modern winger, with the potential to develop into one of the best in the world.

There’s no denying the price tag RB Leipzig would demand is significant. But with so few genuine right-wing options available at that level, especially when thinking about a long-term successor to Mohamed Salah, it’s the kind of deal Liverpool may simply have to seriously consider.

Diomande also showed on Sunday night just how ready he is for the next step, making his World Cup debut and immediately looking at home on the big stage.

The Ivorian made history in the process, becoming the first player in Opta’s records since 1966 to register 5+ chances created (5), 5+ tackles (5), 10+ duels won (11), and 10+ touches in the opposition box (12) in a single FIFA World Cup match.

Those numbers say a lot about his all-round game. He’s not just pace and flair on the ball — he works extremely hard without it too. That blend of attacking threat from wide areas, directness in the final third, and defensive work rate is exactly the kind of profile that fits what modern elite teams demand.

For a side looking to maintain intensity, creativity and pressing from the flanks, Diomande already looks like a player built for that level.

And that Liverpool are ready to make huge contract offer to Diomande, an offer that exceeds that of what Paris Saint Germain could offer.
