Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim would love to keep Casemiro at the club, but the finances will have the last word on the matter.
The Brazilian is one of the most decorated players in his generation, mostly thanks to his long stint at Real Madrid. In the summer of 2022, he decided to change air by joining the Red Devils. However, he endured two rough seasons under Erik ten Hag.
For his part, Amorim initially dropped Casemiro from his starting lineup, especially following an abysmal showing against Newcastle in the final fixture of 2024. However, an injury crisis gave him a new lifeline in February, and he was able to make the most out of the opportunity. The veteran has been a regular starter ever since.
A few months ago, the 33-year-old’s exit once his contract expires in June would have been a foregone conclusion. After all, INEOS are keen to lower the wage bill, and the Brazil international is the highest earner at the club, with a weekly salary of £315,000.
Nevertheless, Casemiro’s growing importance at Amorim’s court has warranted fresh reflections.
In the latest update posted on his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano offered some insight on the current situation.
The Italian journalist insists that Amorim has every desire to keep Casemiro at Carrington beyond the current campaign, as he has become a ‘crucial’ player in his system. However, the player must be willing to accept a financial sacrifice.
“At the moment, the salary is way too high for Manchester United to extend that,” said the transfer market expert.
“So, or they find a solution for the contract, and this is for Casemiro and Maguire, or the player will leave for free.”
If Man Utd managed to crawl their way back to Europe next season, they will surely require additional depth and quality, especially in the middle of the park.
The Red Devils will certainly make at least one acquisition in this department, with the most likely candidates being up-and-coming Premier League stars, namely Carlos Baleba, Adam Wharton and Elliot Anderson.

But while adding young blood to the squad is always a good idea, big clubs often rely on their experienced players to make the difference at crucial moments of the season, especially on the European stage.
Hence, if Casemiro can maintain his current form until the end of the season, he would certainly justify his stay, but only if the numbers add up.
