Fabrizio Romano says Leeds United remain in the hunt for Union Berlin centre-back Danilho Doekhi, who is set to leave on a free transfer, with Borussia Dortmund and PIF-backed Saudi Pro League clubs also interested.

Leeds explored a deal in January and their interest has carried into the summer as Doekhi’s contract approaches expiry.

The Dutchman has not missed a single minute of Bundesliga action across the past two seasons and has scored seven goals, offering rare reliability and threat from centre-back.

Those qualities suit Leeds after injuries unsettled their defence and forced reshuffles. Joe Rodon has not started the last few matches.

Earlier internal assessments compared Doekhi to Virgil van Dijk, pointing to composure, physical strength and control in defensive duels.

Adaptation could be eased by existing links, having played with Brenden Aaronson at Union Berlin and come through Ajax with Pascal Struijk, a potential partner in central defence. Leeds are also targeting other centre-backs.
