Fabrizio Romano has said Leeds United are still pushing to sign Mykhailo Mudryk on loan as the deadline nears. He said Mudryk is set to leave Chelsea with a loan under discussion, wants to stay in the Premier League, though surprises remain possible.

Leeds have made five signings but Daniel Farke still wants two more before the window closes. With roughly 36 hours left, impatience is growing, and Joe Rodon’s injury on Sunday has exposed the lack of centre-back depth.

Early in the window it was reported the focus would be the final third, yet the only attacking arrival is Harry Wilson on a free. Since promotion Leeds have spent about £18m on attack, with Noah Okafor the only player to cost a fee.

Farke has told The 49ers and Adam Underwood that reinforcements are needed, stressing the squad is still small. Chelsea rejected an initial approach for Mudryk, and it is believed Leeds could not guarantee the game time the Blues sought.

Mudryk remains in play, but Willy Gnonto’s future is also uncertain. Fiorentina push for the Italy international and there are suggestions he is open to La Viola. They need additions after a 3-0 defeat to Frosinone in their Serie A opener.

Leeds also need full-back cover and, depending on Rodon’s prognosis, another centre-back. A striker is required after losing Joel Piroe, but recruiting one could be tricky if the role is largely from the bench. After last summer’s deadline-day miss on Wilson, they cannot afford a repeat.
