According to Glorioso 1904, Fabrizio Romano says Marco Silva is the favourite to succeed José Mourinho as Benfica head coach in 2026/27, with the club’s interest firm.

He reports the Fulham manager sits high on Benfica’s shortlist and is well regarded inside the hierarchy. Romano has previously praised Silva’s work at Fulham.

He adds that Silva currently leads the candidates to replace Mourinho, although the process is not yet closed.

Romano also notes that major European clubs have tracked Silva recently. He was an option for Juventus in 2025, who kept Tudor. Tottenham considered him again before opting for Roberto De Zerbi, and he was among three names on Chelsea’s shortlist.

A return to Portugal, and the Primeira Liga, remains a strong possibility, he says. Benfica want to reclaim the title after a less positive season. Silva is expected to join, although an agreement still needs to be finalised.
