Fabrizio Romano reveals Barcelona stance on Julian Alvarez after Deco comments | OneFootball

The Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez was the highest-priority target for FC Barcelona during the last summer transfer window, but despite being linked with him throughout the transfer window, they were unable to land him.

The player himself was keen to join the Catalan club, and even publicly declared his desire to leave the Colchonero side. However, as SPORT has reported, the journalist Fabrizio Romano claims that these comments do not necessarily mean that Barcelona will not again try to sign him.

Reacting to Deco’s statements, the Italian journalist said:

“Barcelona believe they have built a top-level team and don’t want any more distractions. When Deco says Julián is in the past, he means that we have spent the whole summer talking about him. Enough is enough. Let’s focus on this season.”

“This doesn’t mean that Barcelona have completely erased Julián Alvarez’s name from their minds. It is simply Deco saying: let’s focus on this season for Barcelona, Atlético and Julián. What will happen in the near future, in 2027? We’ll see.”

So far, Hansi Flick has played Raphinha as his center-forward, and this decision has turned out to be a rather exceptional one for the German coach, as the Brazilian has been in incredible form, scoring 14 goals and providing three assists in eight games. Meanwhile, Gabriel Jesus and Hamza Abdelkarim are other options for Flick for the center-forward position.

However, despite such a forward line brimming with star power and talent, it would be understandable if Barcelona made a move for Julian Alvarez in the future, especially as he remains one of the very best players in his position in the world.
