The Hoops have reached an agreement with French Rennes over the sale of Kyogo Furuhashi. The Japan international joins them for a fee in excess of €10 million.
In a separate deal, Jota also “joins” Celtic after a €10 million (£8.4m) fee has been agreed with Rennes, which includes a 10% sell-on clause.
Romano wrote on X: “Rennes complete deal in excess of €10m for Kyogo Furuhashi from Celtic. Jota joins Celtic for €10m plus 10% sell-on clause, back to the club.”
Sky Sports, however, claim that Celtic are “close” to agreeing a deal for Jota.
They add that negotiations on a deal worth £8m have reached advanced stages, with the player keen to return to Glasgow.
Jota has been frozen out by Rennes boss Jorge Sampaoli, and he has grabbed the opportunity to return to Celtic Park, where he is loved by the fans.
The winger moved to Saudi Pro League club Al-Ittihad for a fee of £25 million, which was then a record-breaking deal.
He struggled to settle in Saudi Arabia, and his talent was largely wasted. It was a wrong decision for him, and he endured a nightmare spell.
As per the Daily Record, not only was Jota excluded from their Saudi Pro League squad, he was forced to sit in the stands and watch until Asian Champions League matches rolled around. Even then, he didn’t get regular game time.
He thought his dark days were over when he moved to Rennes last summer. After Sampaoli was appointed, he was one of several players banished from first-team training, along with former Rangers star Glen Kamara.
However, Jota is now all set to return to his old club. Celtic are also close to reaching a pre-contract deal to sign Kieran Tierney from Arsenal, and they will probably try to get him on board during the current window on a cut-price deal.
