Fabrizio Romano shared the latest updates on Manchester United’s pursuit of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.

The Red Devils are keen to bolster their attacking ranks in the summer, especially with Marcus Rashford, Antony and Jadon Sancho all expected to leave for good.

The Premier League giants are widely expected to sign a new centre-forward, but adding depth and quality to the flanks is also an objective for the club.

In recent weeks, Cunha emerged as a primary candidate for the club, with many sources claiming United are ‘very close’ to sealing an agreement with the player’s entourage. The Brazilian winger has a contract with Wolves valid until 2029, but it includes a £62.5 million release clause that the club can trigger.

Moreover, a report from The Telegraph claimed that in addition to Cunha, MUFC are also keen to sign Mbeumo, who is also enjoying a splendid Premier League campaign. The Cameroonian star contributed with 16 goals and seven assists in 35 league appearances this term.

The 25-year-old’s contract with The Bees will expire in 2026, but the club has an option to push back the deadline until 2027. Hence, his current asking price remains high, estimated at £60 million.

For his part, Romano confirmed United’s keen interest in Cunha, identifying him as the club’s main target. But on the other hand, he poured cold water on Mbeumo’s pursuit, suggesting the race for the 25-year-old could be tight.

“As far as I know, the main target remains Cunha,” said the transfer market expert in his GiveMeSport newsletter (via UtdDistrict).

“For Mbeumo, there will be many clubs involved, so it’s an open race.”

Man United unlikely to sign both Cunha & Mbeumo

At this stage, it seems unlikely for the Red Devils to splash £125 million on two outside forwards, especially when they already have an excellent right winger in Amad Diallo.

It should be noted that Cunha can play as centre-forward, but signing a natural out-and-out striker would be a more sensible solution.
