Fabrizio Romano reports that Sunderland are in talks with Jenson Seelt over a new contract that could run to June 2030.

The club are prepared to extend his deal before potentially approving another loan, with interest from Serie A and the Bundesliga.

The 23-year-old centre-back returned to Wearside this summer. He joined from PSV in summer 2023.

Seelt suffered a serious knee injury during the 2023-24 campaign, spending a lengthy spell out before forcing his way back into contention.

He started Sunderland’s opening Premier League match against West Ham last season, then later joined Wolfsburg on loan.

He is now back at the Academy of Light with his long-term future under discussion ahead of the new campaign.

With Régis Le Bris well stocked at centre-back, another temporary move could offer Seelt regular minutes. A fresh long-term deal would underline faith in him. Sunderland begin away at Ipswich Town as the window enters its final stages.
