Liverpool Future Unclear as Fabrizio Romano Updates on Curtis Jones Contract

Liverpool head into the summer window facing uncertainty around Curtis Jones, with fresh insight from Fabrizio Romano shedding light on the midfielder’s situation. Despite being under contract until 2027, the 25-year-old’s future at Anfield remains unresolved, with interest building across Europe.

Curtis Jones contract situation latest

There is no immediate indication that Liverpool are close to resolving Jones’ contract status. While the club are not actively seeking to sell the midfielder, there is also little evidence of progress towards a renewal.

Romano provided a detailed update, stating: “Keep an eye on Curtis Jones, Liverpool midfielder, contract expiring in 2027. He was Inter’s main midfield target in the January window, alongside the wide positions, where no one ended up arriving, but Inter really pushed hard for him.

“They weren’t able to convince Liverpool, but the player had already shown openness to the Inter project. So there’s mutual interest that still exists heading into the summer. Now it will depend on how Liverpool value him and what price they set. As of now, late April, I’m not aware of any ongoing negotiations for a contract renewal.”

That update reflects a standstill rather than urgency, with Liverpool continuing to assess Jones’ long term role under Arne Slot.

Interest from Inter Milan grows

Interest from Inter Milan has been consistent since the January transfer window. The Serie A side identified Jones as a key midfield target and could reignite their pursuit in the coming months.

Romano added: “He’s absolutely a name to keep in mind for an Inter side that is heading into a summer of change in midfield, depending on what happens with players like Mkhitaryan, Frattesi, and others.”

With midfield changes expected in Milan, Jones remains firmly on their shortlist. Clubs in the Premier League, including Tottenham and Aston Villa, have also been linked, underlining the level of demand should Liverpool consider offers.

Liverpool decision point approaching

Liverpool’s current position appears measured. There is no push to move Jones on, yet no commitment to an enhanced role or improved terms. For a player seeking greater influence, that balance may prove decisive.

From a squad building perspective, Liverpool must weigh several factors. Jones is homegrown, experienced in the Premier League, and entering a critical phase of his contract. If no extension is agreed, his value could peak this summer.

At the same time, recent performances have strengthened his case. Jones has delivered important contributions, reinforcing his technical quality and tactical versatility within Slot’s system.

Role under Arne Slot remains key

The central issue revolves around clarity. Jones is understood to favour staying at Liverpool, provided he is given a more defined role within the team. Without that assurance, interest from clubs like Inter Milan could become more persuasive.

Liverpool’s title winning campaign under Slot has raised expectations across the squad, with competition for midfield places intensifying. That context makes the coming weeks significant for both player and club.

A resolution is not yet imminent, but the situation is evolving. With the summer transfer window approaching, Liverpool and Curtis Jones are approaching a pivotal moment that could shape both the squad and the player’s career trajectory.
