The scenario: The team currently second in the table face the team currently in 12th place. Borussia have lost only one of their last 24 Bundesliga matches across this season and last, while Werder have not won any of their last five matches.

Home & away: Borussia are third in the home table, while Werder are 13th in the away table. BVB's last home defeat in the Bundesliga was ten months ago: on 8  March, the Black & Yellows lost their game against FC Augsburg by a scoreline of 1-0. Werder have lost four of their eight away games so far. They won in Gladbach and took a point from Heidenheim, Mainz and, most recently, Augsburg.

Head-to-head record: Borussia Dortmund have lost ten times against Werder Bremen after taking a 1-0 lead, but they have also turned a game around eight times (most recently in 2020/21) after being down. In their Bundesliga history, BVB have only won more games against Eintracht Frankfurt (51 times) than against Werder Bremen (49 times). They have also suffered more defeats only against Bayern Munich (55) and VfB Stuttgart (44), than against Bremen (42). However, BVB have only lost one of their last 13 matches.

Statistics: Borussia Dortmund scored all three of their goals in Frankfurt directly or indirectly from crosses in open play, making them the club with the most goals from such crosses in the league, just like the previous season. Only two clubs made more high-intensity runs than BVB (an average of 705 high-intensity runs per match). Werder Bremen on the other hand, covered the lowest distance per match (an average of 116.7 kilometers). No other club have had more counter-attack efforts than Werder (20).

Last season: In front of 81.365 spectators in a sold-out SIGNAL IDUNA PARK, BVB first lost the injured Felix Nmecha (8), and then  Nico Schlotterbeck received an early red card (21). However, Borussia celebrated goals in the 28th and in the 51st minutes, courtesy of Serhou Guirassy and an own goal by Marco Friedl. However, Werder Bremen profited from their numerical advantage with goals from Leonardo Bittencourt (65) and Marvin Ducksch (73) to equalise and secure a 2-2 final score.

The biggest home win: So far, BVB have scored 101 home goals against Werder. The most goals scored in a single game was on 2 February 1980, in a 5-0 win with goals by Wolfgang Vöge, Theo Schneider (twice), Manfred Burgsmüller and Herbert Hein.Boris Rupert
