The 21-year-old has yet to break into Fabian Hurzeler’s immediate plans, after loans at Leicester, Chelsea and Leeds across the past two seasons.

He joined Albion from Rosario Central three-and-a-half years ago, and the club remain keen to monitor his progress.

Buonanotte struggled for minutes at Chelsea and Leeds last term, so he will hope for a stronger run in Spain.

He trained with Albion in pre-season in Vienna and came on as a second-half substitute in the No.10 role against Strasbourg.

Elche secured promotion as runners-up on the final day with a 4-0 win at Deportivo La Coruna. Head coach Eder Sarabia then stepped down for personal and family reasons, and Anselmi took over.
