Despite a 4-1 defeat to Palmeiras on Sunday 23, Facundo Colidio was Vasco’s major positive, coming on at 3-0 and heading his first official goal for the club.

According to PaponaColina, his impact as a central striker has strengthened his case to start against Vitória.

Portuguese coach Pedro Emanuel said he initially left him out because of the short turnaround, stressing the need to protect players with little time to train. He noted recoveries vary, cited Cuiabano feeling an issue before being withdrawn despite reluctance, and added Colidio was not at 100 percent so he preferred not to risk him, trusting his instincts.

This was Colidio’s first outing for Vasco as a number nine after debuting against Santos off the left at São Januário. In limited minutes he added fluency, produced two dangerous efforts and was rated the team’s standout by the press.

Off the pitch, investor Marcos Lamacchia, who is negotiating the purchase of Vasco SAF, attended wearing the number nine shirt with Colidio’s name.

Vasco face Vitória on Wednesday 26 at 21:30 at São Januário, the first leg of the Copa do Brasil quarter-finals.
