Inter Milan are considering appointing Cristian Chivu as their next manager following Simone Inzaghi’s departure and a failed move for Cesc Fabregas.
According to journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the Nerazzurri have turned their attention to the Parma boss and have initiated contact with his representatives.
Parma have granted permission for talks to proceed as they begin their own search for a new manager.
The former Inter defender has quickly emerged as the club’s leading target. He is open to a return to the San Siro, where he spent seven seasons as a player and later worked within the club’s youth set-up.
Inter were initially pushing to hire Fabregas, but Como refused to release him, with club president Mirwan Suwarso making their stance clear.
The club then shifted their focus to other candidates, including Genoa boss Patrick Vieira, although that option has yet to progress significantly.
Chivu’s success with Inter’s Primavera side, including a league title in 2022, and his first senior coaching spell at Parma have made him an attractive choice for the club’s hierarchy.
His deep familiarity with the club’s structure and values has also played a part in Inter’s thinking.
Chivu was part of Inter’s treble-winning side under Jose Mourinho in 2009-10 and won three Serie A titles during his playing career in Milan.
Inzaghi informed Inter of his intention to leave earlier this week after the team’s 5-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final. He has since completed a move to Al-Hilal.
Inter are now working to secure a smooth transition ahead of pre-season, with club officials believed to be keen on making a decision swiftly.
If he is appointed, Chivu would become the latest in a line of former players to take the reins at Inter and would be tasked with restoring momentum following a bruising end to their European campaign.
