Used sporadically this season by Michel Der Zakarian last season, Falaye Sacko (29) is unlikely to stay at Montpellier next season and is close to a move to Russia.
A revelation at Saint-Etienne in the second half of the 2021/2022 season, Sacko joined Montpellier from Vitoria Guimaraes initially on loan before the Ligue 1 side have made the transfer permanent at the end of the season for a €1.3M fee. The Malian international was preferred over the likes of Serge Aurier and Hiroki Sakai to replace Junior Samba. This season, Sacko fell down the pecking order at the right-back position, playing only 19 games, and a transfer looked more and more likely as the season unfolded.
According to Foot Mercato, Montpellier will not retain their player should an opportunity come, and the future of the Malian international could lie in the Russian top flight. While the club’s name hasn’t filtered, the French outlet underlines that the transfer would bring a considerable fee to Montpellier.
