Martin O’Neill and Shaun Maloney will of course continue to hold the fort until they hear otherwise and there’s some white smoke in the sky above Paradise. It wouldn’t concern too many in the Celtic support however if the interim pair remaining charge for a while longer with many hoping that Martin remains in the dugout until at least the Premier Sports Cup Final against St Mirren on Sunday 14 December.

If that doesn’t happens then Celtic will have had Brendan Rodgers in the dugout for the quarter-final at Firhill against Partick Thistle, Martin O’Neill picking the team for the semi-final win over theRangers and the new manager – with Wilfried Nancy currently looking the most likely, leading out the Celtic team for final.

If Martin says on until the end of the year, then a slightly different strange event could happen in Falkirk on Wednesday 14 January. Celtic were scheduled to visit the Falkirk stadium on 14 December in the Scottish Premiership but that game has been postponed due to Celtic’s cup final date against St Mirren.

John McGlynn’s side have lost twice at Celtic Park this season, firstly against Brendan Rodgers’s team in the cup then against Martin O’Neill side in his first game in charge on a interim basis after Brendan’s offer of resignation was accepted by the Celtic Board.

So presumably the new Celtic manager will be in place for the this Falkirk match against Celtic this season with John McGlynn having to pit his wits against three different Celtic managers.

Premier Sports will be showing the League Cup final between St Mirren and Celtic live and they also have the rights to the Falkirk v Celtic match which has now been moved to Wednesday 14 January with a 7.45pm kick-off.

Brendan Rodgers got a 4-1 win over Falkirk, while Martin O’Neill managed a 4-0 victory. John McGlynn will be hoping it’s third time lucky for the Bairns but the new Celtic boss (if Martin’s isn’t still in charge) will be looking for his own win against McGlynn’s side.
