Paul Merson has established a reputation as a blunt truth-teller among Southampton fans. This time, Merson has gone a step further in exaggerating another bitter Premier League result for the Saints.

Today, Southampton will face the most daunting Premier League test one could ever imagine. A Liverpool meeting, that too at Anfield is enough to convince that the Saints would be feeling anything but relaxed during the game.

Understandably so, as their counterparts are the best in England at the moment. To top it off, Southampton's defensive frailties keep getting worse than ever as they approach closer to their impending relegation.

As a pitiful consolation, the Saints have made some progress in the injuries department recently. Will that be enough to keep Liverpool goalless?

As fans, we must remain optimistic but the actual outcome doesn't solely depend on Southampton's efforts.

Paul Merson predicts another humiliating defeat for Southampton

After all, the on-field performances of both teams shape the final full-time score. Yet, if expert opinions are to be considered, then Liverpool are touted to have the final say in the fixture.

Observing the mis-match between the hosts and the Saints, Paul Merson nodded towards a comfortable Liverpool victory.

In his own words, Merson said: "Liverpool can win this game by whatever scoreline they want. I saw Chelsea beat Southampton 4-0 and they weren't even that good."

Now, let's rewind to Ivan Juric's honest Brighton admission a few days ago. The latter was ashamed of seeing his side suffer there and Merson expects the Croatian to continue overseeing further helplessness from the sidelines.

Honestly, Merson's miserable comments sit well logically given that an out-of-form Chelsea also scored for fun against Southampton. Hence, the Saints need some external motivation to step up to the performance standards of the Reds.
