A Flamengo fan accused of snubbing Evertton Araújo has denied being rude, saying widely shared footage misrepresented what happened.

Before kick-off against Bahia in the Brasileirão, several Flamengo players stopped for photos with supporters. A clip posted by Charla Podcast showed Araújo leaning in smiling for a selfie, then looking awkward as the supporter moved away.

The fan later explained he had called Araújo over moments earlier and was rushing to take pictures with as many people as possible. He said he struggles with selfies and would never intentionally slight the midfielder, adding that he shared his account in a WhatsApp supporters group.

On the pitch, the academy midfielder started the 12th-round meeting with Bahia and stood out defensively. He made six tackles and two clearances, and was not dribbled past.

With Araújo available, Flamengo now turn to the Copa do Brasil. On Wednesday, 22, Leonardo Jardim’s side face Vitória at 21:30, Brasília time, in the first leg of the fifth phase at the Maracanã.
