Fan club bus on fire: Shock for Bayern fans after BVB game | OneFootball

The return journey from the top match in Dortmund ended dramatically for numerous Bayern supporters. What began as an exuberant away trip turned into an inferno of flames just a few meters from the destination. A fan bus burned out completely in Saxony.

The „Fanclub Rabenau“ had set off for Dortmund early on Saturday morning. After FC Bayern’s hard-fought 3:2 victory at Borussia Dortmund, the 63 passengers made their way home again. According to BILD, the serious incident occurred shortly before the bus station in Tharandt.

In sporting terms, the record champions had previously experienced an intense classic. Munich dominated for long stretches, but still fell behind through a set piece. Harry Kane turned the game around with two goals before Joshua Kimmich scored the acclaimed winner with a direct shot shortly before the end. The success at the top of the table caused great euphoria among the fans who had travelled with them, and the return journey was actually supposed to be another highlight of the day.

Fire apparently caused by technical defect

Only 20 people were still on the bus on the return journey, after some of the group had already disembarked in Döbeln. Suddenly, smoke rose from the engine compartment at the rear of the vehicle. One passenger noticed the clouds of smoke, the driver reacted immediately and stopped the bus. A few moments later, the flames spread.

The remaining passengers left the vehicle in time and were unharmed. However, when the fire department and police arrived, the coach was already fully engulfed in flames. The emergency services fought the flames with extinguishing water and foam, but were unable to save the coach.

All that remained was a burnt-out carcass. According to initial findings, investigators assume that a technical defect was the possible cause. Investigations into the exact cause of the fire are still ongoing.
