Fan footage posted on X by Matt (@mpwolf94) captured disorder on the pitch after Gornal Athletic lost 2-1 to Sutton United in the Midlands Football League Division One play-off final. The match was played at Garden Walk Stadium in Gornal on Saturday, 2 May.
West Midlands Police said they were investigating the disorder and that no-one was seriously injured. A 15-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of violent disorder and later bailed pending further enquiries. Anyone with information is asked to contact police via Live Chat on their website or by calling 101, quoting log 3806 of 2/5/26.
After the final whistle, Sutton United supporters came onto the pitch to celebrate with the players. Several Gornal fans also entered the field and confrontations followed.
In some incidents, punches were thrown. Flares were hurled onto the pitch then thrown back into the packed main stand, where a crowd of more than 1,500 had gathered.
Police officers ran across the pitch to break up scuffles, with at least one police dog present. It took at least 15 minutes to clear the area and move supporters from the playing surface.
