It was a hectic window for the Clarets, with a whole host of key figures leaving Turf Moor ahead of the deadline.

However, Koleosho was one player they managed to retain, despite Wolves pushing to bring him to the Premier League as they looked to bring in attacking reinforcements.

Luca Koleosho signs new Burnley deal

As well as keeping the player, Burnley moved to agree fresh terms with the 19-year-old, and he put pen to paper on a five-year deal earlier this month, before going on to score the only goal of the game as Scott Parker’s side beat Leeds last time out.

So, it’s been a good period for the attacker, and ex-England international Palmer insisted to FLW that the club deserve credit for keeping hold of Koleosho.

It’s very important to keep your best players, especially the young ones, and he’s 19-years-old, very exciting and it was a shame he picked up an injury last season.

But, he’s back now, and he’s up and running, scoring against Cardiff and Leeds. It was of paramount importance to keep the youngster. We know when you’ve got good young players that the top clubs will come looking.

Burnley have got their sights on getting back into the Premier League, so it’s fantastic news that Koleosho is remaining at the club.

Scott Parker has done a great job so far, the players are enjoying their football and hopefully they can continue carrying on as they look to win promotion.”

Luca Koleosho will be key to Burnley’s promotion push

Most will agree with Palmer’s assessment here, and there’s no denying that Parker will be relying on Koleosho this season as the Clarets look to bounce back to the Premier League at the first attempt.

He proved that at Leeds, with the goal highlighting what the teenager is about, as he carried the ball well with his pace, but he still had the composure to finish in the final third.

Of course, he is a young player, so there will need to be some patience, but Koleosho has the potential to go a long way in the game, but his only focus will be on helping Burnley this season.

After losing the likes of Wilson Odobert, Vitinho, Anass Zaroury and Johann Berg Gudmundsson, Burnley lost a lot of quality out wide, and now is Koleosho’s time to show he can be the main man at Turf Moor.

In the long-term, Koleosho undoubtedly has the potential to play for a top club in a top division, but, right now, Burnley is the right fit for the winger as he continues to develop.

So, it will be interesting to see how this season plays out for him, but the early signs are certainly positives.

Burnley are back in action at home to Portsmouth this weekend, with Koleosho sure to be involved as Parker’s men try to build on their good start that has put them in fourth place in the Championship.
