Farewell after the loan? This is how Bayern bosses plan with Nicolas Jackson

Nicolas Jackson has shown solid performances at FC Bayern recently after some initial difficulties, but his future remains uncertain. The decision on whether to keep him or not has a number of hurdles

The club’s management is basically satisfied with the 24-year-old’s development so far, but according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, those responsible want to wait and see before making a decision on Jackson’s future. The focus is on the current season, after which the situation will be comprehensively assessed

One thing seems clear: a permanent comeback at Chelsea is off the table, Jackson will leave the club for good in the summer – either for Munich or another club

A permanent transfer still seems unlikely at the moment, however, due to the transfer fee demanded by Chelsea FC, who, according to The Athletic, are strictly opposed to any kind of discount. For Bayern, the package demanded would be hard to justify, especially given the current distribution of roles in the squad

Jackson moved to Munich on deadline day on a €16.5 million loan deal, which also included a €65 million purchase obligation, although this only applies under certain conditions. As Uli Hoeneß explained at the time: „He has to play 40 games from the start – he never does.“

It is now clear that the attacking player will not reach this mark. The obligation no longer applies – the option remains

Jackson scores with efficiency

In sporting terms, Jackson’s interim results are mixed. With six goals in 15 appearances, he has delivered solid figures, averaging a scoring point every 77 minutes. That makes him more efficient than some of his established colleagues in the squad. But star appearances have been rare so far. Jackson has mostly come on as a wild card and has not always been convincing in terms of play

Coach Vincent Kompany repeatedly praised the Senegalese’s profile, but also made it clear that an investment of this magnitude would only be justified with clear prospects. The 24-year-old is still seen internally as a supplementary player behind Harry Kane – a position that hardly carries such a price tag

The fact that Chelsea continue to insist on the full transfer fee makes the record champions‘ plans considerably more difficult. Even a fair market price of around €50 million would be difficult to argue for a replacement player. Jackson will remain an integral part of the squad until the summer. What happens after that depends largely on Chelsea’s willingness to negotiate – and there are no signs of that so far.
