Francesco Farioli answered José Mourinho with irony on Monday, picking up on talk of a real and a virtual league before Porto’s first-leg Taça de Portugal semi-final at Sporting.

According to Glorioso 1904, the Porto head coach asked where Porto stand in that virtual table, then said it meant they remain top.

He also asked if there is a trophy for the virtual champion, adding it would be better to spend their energy on the other one.

Mourinho had raised the theme in his preview to Gil Vicente v Benfica on Sunday, comments that also drew a reply from Rui Borges. Later, the context was set out on BTV as what Benfica view as serious refereeing errors, which they believe benefited Sporting by six points and Porto by two, while costing Benfica six.

Gil Vicente v Benfica is on Monday, 2 March at Estádio Cidade de Barcelos, kick-off 20:15, and closes the 24th round. João Gonçalves is appointed referee.
