Ajax coach Francesco Farioli confirmed on Wednesday that Remko Pasveer is available again for the Europa League match against Eintracht Frankfurt. The 41-year-old goalkeeper was absent from the last two matches against Go Ahead Eagles and Almere City, but returns for the secondary European competition’s round of 16 fixture.
Pasveer played a major role in progressing to this round, starring in the previous Europa League match against Union Saint-Gilloise last month. The veteran has since missed two league matches for Ajax and was replaced in those matches by Brazilian Matheus Lima Magalhães, who arrived from Braga in the January transfer window.
Since the Brazilian goalkeeper is not eligible to play in the Europa League, Pasveer’s return arrives as a real boost. Farioli also indicated that captain Jordan Henderson and Josip Sutalo are back in the selection for the first leg against German opposition.
Henderson missed a few matches last month and was a substitute against USG and Almere. Sutalo was absent, just like Pasveer, against GAE and Almere. Wout Weghorst, Owen Wijndal and Youri Regeer are still sidelined. Davy Klaassen is suspended due to his handball against USG.
