Francesco Farioli railed against the officiating after Sunday’s Braga 1-2 Porto, invoking a Benfica-related incident for comparison. According to Glorioso 1904, the Italian coach voiced indignation despite being pleased with the result.
The match formed part of the 27th round of the Liga Portugal Betclic.
He said his side did not deserve to be 1-0 down and that there were at least three contentious moments. He questioned the penalty and added that, if that was a penalty, he would like clarity on the Deniz Gül situation in the first-round clássico with Benfica.
That October meeting finished 0-0, with Benfica away from home. It was the first clássico of the season, a hard-fought contest against the then league leaders who had only wins to that point.
At the time, Benfica registered a fourth draw in 15 games, took 18 points and sat third.
They are currently unbeaten in the league, with 19 wins in 27 matches, still in third. After the current international break, Benfica visit Casa Pia on Saturday, four April, for matchday 28.
