Porto head coach Francesco Farioli is pushing to sign Lazio left-back Nuno Tavares this summer.

According to The Laziali, Porto are frontrunners for the defender and Farioli has contacted his entourage.

Tavares endured a difficult spell under Maurizio Sarri, but later reclaimed a starting berth after improving his defending and tactical discipline.

Gennaro Gattuso plans to keep him in next season’s squad, having missed the chance to coach him at Olympique Marseille when he had already returned to Arsenal. Even so, his future remains unclear amid rising interest.

Besiktas and Fiorentina have emerged in recent days. Lisbon-born, he started at Sporting Club and came to prominence at Benfica. He left Portugal in summer 2021 to join Arsenal, and could be tempted by a homecoming even if it means an old rival.

Arsenal retain a 35% sell-on fee and remain an interested party. Claudio Lotito will not sell for less than €20 million, so it remains to be seen if Porto will pay that figure.
