Maghreb Atlético Tetuan announced on Saturday the death of Faten Ben Amar El Azizi, who drowned while trying to swim to the Spanish enclave of Ceuta. The club said in a statement that the tragedy occurred during her attempt to reach the enclave.

It said her dream had broken before it began and she had not sought glory or adventure, but a better life across the border.

The statement also lamented the high price paid by many young people during irregular migration attempts, which turn dreams into nightmares and joy into tears.

She is among 67 people whose deaths have been recorded by Spanish authorities. Over the past week about 60,000 people crossed from Morocco into Ceuta, most of them swimming.

By Saturday, the situation was described as almost back to normal, with almost all migrants having returned to Morocco.
