Our FC Red Bull Salzburg Women are riding a wave of success, having recently secured 13 out of a possible 15 points in the ADMIRAL Women's Bundesliga. On Friday at 19:30 CET, they face a similarly in-form team in the ÖFB Women's Cup Round of 16 when travelling to FC Wacker Innsbruck. This knockout match – officiated by referee Anton Bernecker – will take place at Tivoli W1 and will be broadcast on ÖFB TV.
The Tyrolean side from the Second Women's Bundesliga went into their three-month league winter break at the beginning of November with a positive feeling, having triumphed 3-2 against league leaders SK Rapid. This victory firmly established the team relegated from the Bundesliga 2023/24 as a force to be reckoned with, having already shocked the then league leaders SK Austria Klagenfurt just a few weeks earlier.
Wacker – the second youngest team in the second division – are now unbeaten for two months, but they face our team brimming with confidence. They also want to keep alive their chance of repeating last year's Bergheim Cup fairytale, in which Laura Spinn and her team-mates advanced all the way to the semi-finals.
In the first round this year, both the Tyrolean side (3-0 v FC Pinzgau Saalfelden) and our women (8-0 v FC Sohm Alberschwende) had comfortable wins.
We know that anything can happen in the cup. For us, it's about taking our opponents seriously and playing our game with full concentration and intensity. We want to dictate the pace and be dominant. The cup is a competition in its own right with great opportunities, and we want to go as far as possible!
