FC Barcelona and Real Madrid are set to lock horns soon in the Spanish Super Cup final. At a neutral venue once again, both teams will face off in Saudi Arabia, just as they did last year in the same competition.

Barça emerged victorious on that occasion and are the reigning Spanish Super Cup champions. However, if they are to defend their title, they will need to perform far better than they did in the recent El Clasico at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Match overview:

This game will be a major test for both teams, and neither will want to lose such a high-stakes final. That said, Barça are currently enjoying an excellent run of form, and it seems clear that they will not be the same side as the one that faced Real Madrid in their most recent meeting.

This is welcome news for Hansi Flick, especially given that the German coach was without both Raphinha and Joan Garcia in the previous El Clasico. Their returns have coincided with the team’s best run of form this season so far.

With nine straight wins across all competitions, Barça have also kept clean sheets in each of their last five games. That is an impressive achievement in itself, and it has been matched by several stellar displays, both collectively and individually.

Across those last five matches, Flick’s team has scored 13 goals and conceded none. Most recently, they recorded a dominant 5-0 victory over Athletic Club in the semi-final of the ongoing Spanish Super Cup.

Xabi Alonso’s side, meanwhile, has also been in strong form. With five wins from their last five games, Real Madrid remain a formidable force in their own right.

They have scored 14 goals in those five matches and conceded five in the same period. However, they still trail Barça in La Liga and will be keen to ensure that they do not let this title slip away.

Taking everything into account, this final promises intensity and determination from both sides. A win here could prove crucial to either team’s season, and Barcelona will be eager to make sure they retain their title this year as well.
