The last game of the 2024/25 UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage takes FC Bayern Women to England as they take on Arsenal looking to secure top spot in Group C on Wednesday (kick-off: 9pm CET). You can watch the match for free on DAZN. Here’s all you need to know ahead of the game in our preview.
Bayern currently lead Group C after four wins and a draw, already securing a top-two finish and progress to the quarter-finals some weeks ago. Another victory in this last game would see the Munich Frauen end a group stage unbeaten for the first time and also set a new club record of 16 points. Bayern’s last Champions League outing was an impressive 4-0 win at home to Juventus.
The reverse fixture against Arsenal provided plenty of excitement, with the game level at 1-1 after 45 minutes before Bayern turned things up in the second half to claim a 5-2 win.
The Reds have also enjoyed recent wins in the Bundesliga. Carolin Simon scored both goals in a 2-0 win at home to Turbine Potsdam on Sunday in the last domestic game of the year. It leaves Bayern in second place over the winter break, behind Eintracht Frankfurt only on goal difference.
Alara Şehitler scored her first Champions League goal last time out against Juventus.
Arsenal are currently second in Group C with 12 points, just one behind Bayern. Since their loss in Munich, they’ve won all four group fixtures and are also already through to the quarter-finals. It means the encounter with Renée Slegers’ team will now determine who finishes the section in first place.
Head coach Alexander Straus goes into this final group game still without Lena Oberdorf (cruciate ligament), Katharina Naschenweng (knee) and Mala Grohs (illness) for this game. Magou Doucouré is also ill and therefore unavailable.
Bayern want to end the Women’s Champions League group stage without defeat.
Alexander Straus: “We want to show a good performance away at Arsenal. Our goal is to prove ourselves at this level and win games like these. We showed in the reverse fixture that we have the quality to hurt them.”
Georgia Stanway: “Arsenal have a lot of energy and have been in good form of late. It’ll be a tough game where we can prove how far we’ve come. It’s just what we’ve worked towards. Our goal is to win the group and end the year on a positive.”
