FC Lorient help Plaudren ahead of historic Coupe de France tie | OneFootball

Amateur side Plaudren have been aided by FC Lorient this week as they prepare for a landmark Coupe de France tie. The R3 club face Pontivy (R1), two divisions above, in the fourth round on Sunday at 15:00, their first time at this stage.

According to L'Équipe, Lorient, currently 12th in Ligue 1, initiated the gesture to help Plaudren chase an upset. Club officials first suspected a prank before embracing the support.

Les Merlus have documented the story in a short daily series on their social channels. Throughout the week, Plaudren had access to Lorient’s staff, physio, video analysts and communications team. The Breton club also staged a press conference and a media day.

Club greats Laurent Koscielny and Marama Vahirua visited the 'Écureuils de Plaudren'. Meanwhile, Senegal international Bingourou Kamara, one of the Merlus goalkeepers, joined the amateur keeper's session.

The initiative capped an uncommon week for the Morbihan side as they gear up for the tie.
