Martin O’Neill is set to lead Celtic in Denmark tomorrow night, marking his first European match with the club in 21 years, providing he’s managed to find his passport!

The last time O’Neill managed Celtic in European competition was back in 2004, when a 0-0 draw at home to AC Milan left his side finishing at the bottom of a Champions League group that also featured Barcelona and Shakhtar Donetsk.

Now, Celtic will take on unexpected Europa League table toppers FC Midtjylland, who have surprisingly won all three of their group stage matches this season.

However, the Danes failed to seize the opportunity to move to the summit of their own domestic league, earning only a 1-1 draw with leaders AGF after top scorer Franculino struck late in the game to rescue a point – his seventh goal in the past five matches.

Their skipper, ex-Brentford defender Bech, believes he and his teammates must raise their game when they face Celtic on Thursday evening.

Speaking via Glasgow Times, Bech said: “It’s really annoying only to get a point from this, but it’s because we were not good enough in the first half. We improved a lot in the second half, but we can’t start like that against Celtic this week.

“I don’t know why we started like that. We probably could and should have won the game.”

Also, Midtjylland manager Mike Tullberg expressed no concerns over their packed schedule, even with a major league encounter coming only three days ahead of the European meeting with Scottish champions.

“There’s no point complaining about the schedule,” Tullberg said. “The important thing is that we didn’t get any injuries and it’s now all about getting the players fresh for the game against Celtic.”

A victory for the hosts would almost certainly seal their place in those elusive top 24 spots with four games to spare.
