FC Nantes officially announced this Tuesday the return of Vahid Halilhodžić at the helm of their first team. The 73-year-old Bosnian coach takes over from Ahmed Kantari, who was dismissed after only three months in charge. The former Morocco national team manager arrives with a clear mission: to save Les Canaris, currently sitting 17th in Ligue 1.

The club's management announced the decision in a statement:

"FC Nantes announces the removal of Ahmed Kantari as head of the professional squad and thanks him for his commitment throughout his tenure. He is replaced by Vahid Halilhodzic until the end of the season."

This change comes after a defeat to Angers SCO, a setback that deepened the sporting crisis facing Les Canaris. With this appointment, the club is now on its third manager since the start of the season, a clear sign of the instability surrounding the team.

A return of experience to secure survival

At 73, Vahid Halilhodzic returns to a club he knows well. He previously managed FC Nantes during the 2018-2019 season, a particularly challenging period marked by the tragic loss of Emiliano Sala.

Despite sometimes tense relations with the management, notably with general manager Franck Kita, the Bosnian coach has agreed to return in an effort to turn around a team struggling in the league standings.

Known for his discipline and ability to galvanize his squad, Halilhodzic steps in as a true firefighter. His mission: to stabilize the locker room, reignite momentum on the pitch, and above all, secure the club's place among France's football elite.

A high-pressure end to the season

Currently 17th in Ligue 1, FC Nantes find themselves in an extremely precarious position as the season's final sprint approaches. Every point will count in the fight to avoid relegation.

The Nantes management is banking on the experience and authority of Vahid Halilhodzic, renowned for his demanding methods and his knack for delivering results when it matters most.
